Devcamp aims to nurture East London young people aged 14-18 on the doorstep of Tech City by offering them 3, 5 day summer courses designed to teach them how to build apps for Facebook, smartphones and the web. Volunteers from the digital sector get involved and provide practical help with writing code as well as talking about careers to connect the students with the industry and make it feel more accessible and approachable.
The courses will take place over three consecutive weeks in August 2012 at Rich Mix, an independent cinema, arts centre and registered charity that runs an arts and cultural learning programme in the middle of Tech City, East London.
“Young people in East London might live in ‘Tech City’ but they feel disconnected. Devcamp connects these young people with role models in the industry and offers tech as an attainable career path.”
